Celebrating Legends in Music: 50 Rappers Who Changed the World
The new book we designed for Hardie Grant is now available! '50 Rappers Who Changed the World: A celebration of rap legends' is part of a series profiling the best of the best in a range of different industries.
In 50 Rappers Who Changed the World, author Candice McDuffie charts the genre’s journey through its biggest hitters from the 1970s to the present day. Candice is an established cultural critic and music journalist whose work digs into the intersection of race and gender in entertainment. From Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to Jay-Z, 50 Rappers offers a lively history of rap and its influence on the world.
For the book cover design we used gold-foiled frames to hold Michele Rosenthal’s illustrations of rap’s biggest influencers, with bold gold-foiled typography. We made a subtle nod to the recognisable parental advisory label seen on so many albums to highlight the authors name on the cover.
Introductory spreads featured bold outlined type and the artist profile pages each had an illustrated portrait that sat alongside the biography.
