The health benefits of a plant-based diet are well-known, and recent scientific research has revealed that plants also have a positive effect on the mind. Filbert Press commissioned us to design ‘Botanical Brain Balms’ by Nicolette Perry and Elaine Perry, a book highlighting the beneficial effects of plants on memory, mind and mood.

Communicating clarity with type and space
Type is crucial in establishing the tone of a book, and we carefully chose two typefaces that work together to create a sense of balance and gentle authority. Matched with pared-back layouts and occasional full-bleed imagery, it achieves a softly spoken confidence that perfectly matches the content.
Exploring handcrafted illustrations
To add warmth and visual interest to the content, we commissioned and art-directed Clover Robin, an illustrator with a love of all things botanical. She created all the artwork by hand, using a mixture of cut paper collage, painting, printing and hand drawing. Clover’s illustrations are featured on the cover, chapter openers and pull-out activities, adding charm and character throughout the book.
Studio Noel are thoughtful designers who bring ideas to life and give even half-formed thoughts presence and identity. The results are a delight to behold and sparkle with individuality.
