Designing a plant book for a renowned horticultural brand
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew commissioned us to design the book for author Katherine Price.
The brief was to inspire a wider audience and introduce a younger demographic into having plants in their home. The book was divided into four sections drawing upon Kew's scientific and horticultural knowledge. It included chapters what plants need to flourish, their distinctive characteristics, where to keep plants and a reference section.
A bold, expressive typeface was used for chapter openers, contrasted by a sans serif for pull out quotes and the reference section.
This no-nonsense beautiful book is a practical guide guaranteed to inspire any reader and shows that with a little know-how you can find a plant that will flourish in the many different “ecological niches” available in and around your home.
Full bleed imagery throughout showcased the breathtaking photography and added pace.
We provided moodboards for styling and attended the recce shoot. We worked closely with Kew, the author and photographer on the design for the cover and internals ensuring the book was beautifully finished and sat between a horticultural and a contemporary lifestyle book.
